Who we are
Label League is a fantasy music league run by Context Creative LLC, a Maryland limited liability company (“we” or “us”). These terms cover the website at thelabelleague.com and everything else we offer under the Label League name. By using Label League, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
Two other documents go with these terms. The Official Rules govern the season’s contest and prizes; if they conflict with these terms on anything about the contest, the Official Rules win. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
Who can play, and your account
- You can play the daily games and read the Wire without an account.
- To create an account or run a label, you must be at least 18, and old enough where you live to enter a binding agreement.
- One account per person, and one label per account. Labels are invite-only for season one.
- You sign in with a one-time link or code sent to your email. Keep that email account secure, because you’re responsible for what happens under your Label League account. If you think someone else is using it, tell us right away at hello@thelabelleague.com.
- Choose a label name that isn’t offensive, misleading or someone else’s brand. We may change or remove a name that breaks these terms.
The game, the contest and the Commissioner
- Label League is a game of skill built on public information about real artists: charts, streaming, awards, touring, press and more. Scoring follows the published rulebook.
- Season one is free. No purchase or payment of any kind is needed to play or to win.
- The Official Rules set who can win a prize, including age and residency, how winners are chosen, and how prizes are paid.
- The Commissioner runs the league for us and can’t field a label or win a prize. Protests on a move must be filed within its 48-hour window. The Commissioner’s rulings under the rulebook are final.
- We may correct scores when a source is fixed or an error turns up, adjust the rules between seasons, or pause the game if something breaks. We’ll explain any significant change.
- Play fair. No second accounts, no collusion or trades meant to help another label, no bots or automated play, and no exploiting bugs. Breaking these rules can cost you your label, your standing and any prize.
What you post, and the house rules for chat
You own what you post: chat messages, label names and mottos, poll votes, protests and artist suggestions. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, show and share it inside Label League and in promoting it, for example on share cards and season recaps. The license ends when you delete the post or your account, except where others have already shared it or the law requires us to keep it.
Don’t post anything that:
- harasses, threatens or bullies anyone;
- attacks people for who they are;
- is sexually explicit;
- shares someone’s private information;
- is spam or advertising;
- impersonates anyone; or
- infringes someone’s copyright or trademark, or breaks the law.
We can remove posts and suspend or close accounts that break these rules, with or without notice. To report a message or a player, email hello@thelabelleague.com. We review reports within 24 hours.
If you suggest an artist for the pool, we can use the suggestion freely, without owing you anything for it.
Real artists and outside data
Label League uses publicly available facts about real artists, such as their names, chart positions, streaming counts, awards and tour dates, for commentary and gameplay.
Label League isn’t affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any artist, record label, Spotify, Billboard, the Recording Academy, Apple, or anyone else we write about.
Data can be late or wrong. We fix errors as the rulebook describes, but we can’t guarantee any number. Items on the Wire link to their original sources, which belong to their publishers, not to us.
Our stuff, and what you can’t do with it
Label League itself belongs to Context Creative LLC: the website, the app, the code, the designs and logos, the ratings, the rulebook and the Label League name. We give you a personal, non-transferable license to use it to play.
Please don’t:
- copy, resell or republish our ratings or data;
- scrape or crawl the site or its API, or play with bots;
- reverse-engineer the app;
- get around rate limits or other security measures; or
- use Label League to build a competing product.
Copyright complaints. If you believe something on Label League infringes your copyright, email our designated agent at hello@thelabelleague.com. Include your contact details, the work, and where the material appears. Add a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized, and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you’re authorized to act for the owner. Then sign it. We remove infringing material and close the accounts of repeat infringers.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time by emailing us from the address on your account. Deleting ends your label’s season, and your past results stay in anonymous form, as the Privacy Policy explains.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the game or other players at risk. An account closed for breaking the rules also loses its prize eligibility.
The parts of these terms that should naturally last after an account closes, such as ownership, the fine print below and the license to what you’ve shared, keep applying.
Legal fine print
No warranties. Label League is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or always accurate.
Limit on our liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, Context Creative LLC isn’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim about Label League is limited to $100. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Your responsibility. If you break these terms, or post something that leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs, including legal fees.
Governing law. Maryland law governs these terms, and the Federal Arbitration Act governs the section on disputes below. Any dispute that isn’t arbitrated goes to the state or federal courts in Maryland.
The rest. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t given it up. We may transfer these terms to a successor, such as a buyer of Label League, but you may not transfer yours. These terms, the Official Rules and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about Label League.
Disputes and arbitration
Please read this section carefully. It affects your rights, including your right to go to court.
Talk to us first. Before starting an arbitration or a court case, send a written notice to hello@thelabelleague.com and to our mailing address below. Include your name, the email on your account, the problem and what you want. We’ll do the same if we have a claim against you. If we can’t resolve it within 60 days, either of us can start an arbitration.
Arbitration instead of court. You and Context Creative LLC agree that any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to Label League, these terms or the Official Rules will be settled by binding arbitration before one arbitrator. The American Arbitration Association (AAA) runs it under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitrator decides every question about the dispute, including whether a claim has to be arbitrated, except the questions this section leaves to a court. Hearings can take place by video or phone, or in person in the county where you live or in Maryland, as the AAA rules allow. We’ll pay the AAA’s fees beyond what its rules ask a consumer to pay. The arbitrator can award the same individual relief a court could.
Exceptions. Either of us can bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court instead. Either of us can also ask a court to stop the infringement or misuse of intellectual property.
One player at a time. Claims are brought only individually, never as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective or representative action, and an arbitrator can’t combine more than one person’s claims. Only a court can decide whether this paragraph is enforceable. If a court decides it can’t be enforced for a particular claim, that claim goes to the Maryland courts named above, not to arbitration.
No jury. You and we each give up the right to a jury trial for any dispute this section covers.
Opting out. You can opt out of this section within 30 days of first agreeing to these terms. Email hello@thelabelleague.com from the address on your account, with the subject “Arbitration opt-out”, and say that you opt out. Opting out doesn’t change anything else in these terms.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new date. For significant changes, we’ll also email members or post a notice on the site before they take effect. If you keep using Label League after that, you accept the new terms.
Questions go to hello@thelabelleague.com.
